Second Life IM on your iPhone

For those of you who happen to have an iPhone and have to keep in touch with your SL friends this little app looks quite promising. It's around $5 US, but if you're already running a business or organization inworld I'm sure it can be expensed away.

A Second Life Phone...

I'm just throwing this out there.  I have a Skype account which works great.  I even have a Skype Online Notifier on my desk in SL.  This let's other avatars know my Skype is up and running - when they click it they can give me a call on their Skype. The only inconvenience I see with this is that you have to run another program outside of SL.  This got me thinking..... What if .....

What if I had an actual virtual/real phone on my virtual desk? A phone system/account similar to or even using Skype.  A phone that I can use to connect to real life phones in the real world ala Skype...... I use voice chat in SL to talk. The audio from the person I'm connecting by phone to would be audible in SL just as if it were another avatar. Conference calls even..... Imagine having a conference call where multiple avatars are present in your SL office and multiple people are simultaneously connected by real phones - all being able to voice chat with the others regardless of being inworld or not.....

Now, I have no idea at the moment how this would actually work at the nuts'n'bolts level, but..... I'm thinking this could be a potential killer-app for especially business in SL.

Like I said, just an idea I'm throwing out there.....

Pondering the reality of a virtual world - from "ChicagoLawyer Magazine"

Real lawyers in SL!?! What are they doing? Who's being billed?

1st paragraph excerpt from article...

In a world far removed from his criminal defense practice on LaSalle Street, the lawyer known as Monday Beam has not only put out his shingle on the spacious top floor of a skyscraper that also houses a Cineplex and an art gallery, but he is also the owner of that upscale high-rise, the island on which it sits, and several more islands touted as ”premier, organic” destinations featuring a mix of ”modern residential living” and ‘’state-of-the art” retail offerings......

Isle of Wyrms Cathedral (and Dragons)

This is a very cool sim with a very well-done cathedral construction. They have a liking for dragons on this island, too. This place is worth a visit: SLurl

Portrait of an Artist as an Avatar - The New York Times

CERTAINLY, FILTHY FLUNO is not the first artist to realize that in order to sell his paintings, he needs to sell himself. He does, however, work at it with impressive zeal. Every day he makes new friends and cultivates new contacts, edging himself and his work — a collection of expressionistic oil paintings and vibrant, graffiti-laced pastels — just a little bit farther into a universe that to others might appear huge and indifferent, but as Filthy sees it is stuffed with possibility and also potential customers. To this end, you will often find him wandering around art openings and dance parties, dressed in a spiffy suit and pair of sneakers, trying earnestly to chat up every person in the room.....
